Anyone Remember What Real Leaders Sound Like?

A Letter I Received from the Heritage Foundation from Margaret Thatcher:

It was a great honour to be invited to become the Patron of The Heritage Foundation in 2006.  Heritage’s president Ed Feulner and I first met during the Reagan years and found, almost immediately, that we shared the same goals of defending and extending freedom.  Since then I have greatly admired all the work which Heritage has done and was delighted to become an official part of the organisation.

The world owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Ronald Reagan.  For his determination to rebuild America’s defences; for his insistence that communism should not simply be resisted, but rolled back; for his belief that the free world must respond swiftly and strongly to rogue threats; and for his staunch championing of individual freedom, both at home and abroad: for all these we, and future generations, can be grateful.

But President Reagan also reminded us of another great lesson, which so many others had forgotten or chosen to forget.  He re-taught us the economic principles which underpin our prosperity.  He knew that lower taxes and greater economic freedoms brought boundless opportunity and increased wealth.  And he knew that helping people to help themselves was better than state planning and regulation.  Today, the lessons we relearned in the 1980s are in peril.  Once again, politicians talk of tax and spend policies, forgetting that it is your money they are taxing and your money they are spending.  Such policies, far from building a land of opportunity, create one of dependency.  They would see the greatest economy in the world brought to a shuddering halt.

This is why I am happy to lend my name to Heritage’s work to preserve and to revivify the free market system in the United States.  Heritage’s task will be to remind those who hold office, particularly those in Congress, of “what works” – and we know “what works” because we have Ronald Reagan’s example to guide us.

Ed Feulner has written at greater length in his recent letter to explain Heritage’s future priorities and the role you can play in making them happen.  I hope you will join with us in this vital campaign to ensure that America and its people remain prosperous and free.

Yours sincerely,

Margarat Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher

Why can’t the first potential female running for President be a real leader like Margaret Thatcher?  This is a letter I got from the Heritage Foundation, the World’s Premier Conservative think tank, from Margaret Thatcher.  It outlines perfectly what we really need in this country. I really can’t tell anyone who I think they should vote for – I can plead my case for conservative fiscal policy and security, but it seems to me these are common sense values and policies that we know work through trial and error.  What I can say is that while McCain is a decent man who sacrificed everything for his country, he is far from my ideal choice for president; however, the alternative (whichever socialist gets the Democratic party nomination) is such an affront to everything this country stands for it literally sickens me to think of either Democrat front runner leading our nation.  They are a bitter combination of big government, blame America first, power hungry elitists.  Again, I am not fishing for support, but given the choice presented us this Fall, hold your noses and vote for McCain, or not at all if you can’t back someone you don’t completely believe in.  Maybe the next go round we’ll find a Margaret Thatcher, or a Ronald Reagan…real leaders who stand on principle and don’t pander to special interests choosing instead to do what is right for their entire nation.

Blind homeowner captures intruder

A blind homeowner used the wrestling skills he learned more than 30 years ago to overpower an intruder and hold the man at knifepoint until police arrived this morning.

“I just kind of panicked and just kind of went crazy after that,” Allan Kieta said. “I’ve wrestled all my life. My dad’s a Marine; he taught me some stuff. You’re thinking in your head all this survival stuff.”

An Indianapolis police official called it one of the most incredible tales of citizen self-defense that he’s heard in years.

First of all, congrats to the blind guy for thwarting the would be burglar, who at this moment must feel like the biggest jackass of all time. I’m sure he’ll garner much respect in the bighouse after displaying those mad ninja skills against a clearly much more handi-capable opponent. I don’t say this to be cruel the the blind guy, he had wrestling training and a Marine for a dad so he was as well prepared as a person – sighted or not – could be expected.

Before I finish up here, I would like to point out how things like this happen while simultaneously dipping into the treasure trove that is my knowledge of crap 80’s movies. Some of you may remember this one; others, like-minded, have already started picturing Rutger Hauer with a then very new and cool cane samurai sword. Yes boys and girls, todays random act of heroism/self defense is brought to you by: BLIND FURY!
